I am a 9th generation native of the Granite State, a descendant of Gen. John Stark and "Live Free or Die." I'm married to an amazing woman I met in college and we have two boys. I love being a Dad and work hard at trying to balance it all.
I love the (603) and the intense, intimate political culture of the state. I direct public affairs and government relations for the University of New Hampshire (my alma mater). Public universities are an essential part of keeping our communities, states, and nation strong.
I'm passionate about public engagement and deliberative democracy (what is that? see Portsmouth Listens
, one of the best examples of it in the country). I'm actively engaged in the nonprofit sector -- which is a particularly powerful and vital sector of NH life (1 in 8 NH employees work for a nonprofit). I serve on the Policy and Leadership Workgroup for the NH Center for Nonprofits
I love graphic design, fonts, data visualization and efforts to explain big complicated data in compelling visual ways. "Design is the intermediary between information and understanding" - Richard Grefe.
And I am a big fan of Mark Sisson
, Dave Asprey
, and bulletproof coffee
. My family is raising six chickens for eggs. (My great grandfather owned a 40,000 chicken farm - runs in the family . . . barely.) I hope the 'local food' trend sticks.
I like to find remote swimming holes, jump off cliffs and work hard to maintain my single digit golf handicap. (The background picture for this website is from Bandon Dunes in Oregon.)
I get up early. I like to move forward and get stuff done.
